Dunlap Food Pantry

The mission of the Dunlap Food Pantry is to eliminate hunger in the Dunlap area by providing residents in need with programs that provide food, promote the value of nutrition, increase self-sufficiency, and instill hope. In doing so, the Dunlap Food Pantry helps to ensure that food relief has a more meaningful, enduring impact.

Hours

Tuesdays:      3:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Saturdays:     10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Qualification/Process

Anyone who lives in the Boyer Valley School District can visit the Dunlap Food Pantry and take advantage of the food and supplies that are offered.

To ensure this qualification is met, potential clients must visit the food pantry during regular operating hours and fill out a client intake form stating their name, address, phone number and the number and ages of members in the specific household.

Beneficiaries are allowed to utilize the food pantry's services once every 30 days.

Food pantry volunteers rely on "average consumer guidelines" to determine how much food to give a family, with regard to the number and ages of the client’s household members. The food pantry’s intention is not to be a household’s sole food source but to help partially fill the hunger gap within a 30-day time period. Thus, these guidelines are based on the average food/supplies consumed by a household in a week’s time.

Visitors to the pantry are encouraged to park and enter on the backside of the building. They will be asked to fill out a form and wait as volunteer staff members gather their items. All interactions with the Dunlap Food Pantry are confidential.

Available Items

The Dunlap Food Pantry offers a variety of non-perishable and frozen food items, as well as cleaning supplies like laundry detergents and dish soaps. The pantry also stocks personal care items like shampoo/conditioner, pump/bar soap and toilet paper. Vouchers for fresh produce, dairy products, bread and eggs are available as well.

How to Donate

To remain in operation, the Dunlap Food Pantry relies on support from the Food Bank of the Heartland, monetary donations that are used to purchase food locally from Smitty’s Grocery and food donations from members of Dunlap and the surrounding area.

To donate to this cause, please deliver items to the food pantry during operating hours, or call one of the board members to set up a date/time for drop-off.

Checks can be sent to Dunlap Food Pantry / PO Box 43 / Dunlap, IA 51529

The food pantry has a revolving list available at Smitty’s Grocery that denotes the pantry’s greatest current item needs.

How to Volunteer

The Dunlap Food Pantry seeks volunteers both now and ongoing to ensure sustainability. Volunteers typically work in two-hour shifts and handle tasks such as: ensuring clients fill out the proper intake forms, organizing inventory and gathering items for clients. Volunteers must be 18 years and older.
